Guess who went to Victoria Gardens for another event?
That's right, it was us! We had our second volunteer event yesterday, and it was a bit different from the last one. It had a rough start, but ended up pretty well overall.
Last time, we had Anita, a Victoria Gardens employee who works with volunteers. Unfortunately, she couldn't make it to today's event, which kind of left us in the dark about what we should do.
We all signed in, then went to the business center in the nursing home to ask for instructions. They told us that the seniors were involved in an intense game of bingo, so we would have to wait until that was over. When it ended, they told us that we could go ahead and set up in the dining room. So, we went in there, picked a table, and started setting up our craft. After some waiting, no seniors showed up.
That's when phase 2 was devised: walk around with some tea lights and ask the seniors if they wanted to make one. This caused one senior to do the craft with us, possibly out of pity. We let her make a few, since no one else seemed interested in the craft. She seemed to enjoy it, though.
That's when things started to pick up a little. A lot more seniors started to come in, and all of them seemed to like the craft! We gave away all of our tea lights, and the seniors were happy. After the event was over, we headed back.
Overall, I think it went well. The hiccups were unavoidable, and it was only our second event.
Now that it's over, we will start working on the Arts Fest. I will update the Current Project Page to focus on the festival.
Special thanks to Big Bro Towhid, for being the resident adult at yesterday's event! Also, thanks to all the volunteers who came! Every time I have an event with you guys, I am reminded of just how capable you are!
And now, my dear friends, I must bid you adeiu.
Until next time.
In case you missed out, here is an account to catch you up!
